As you are aware, the samples that you collect from surgeries or health centres can pose a low level risk of infection if they are not handled correctly. There is no risk to you or anyone else as long as the samples are handled correctly and are in the correct packaging.
These samples should have been packed correctly by the sender in a manner that is compliant with UN3373 regulations ensuring that they are safe and secure for transportation. When you collect from a site, you need to make a visual check of the samples to ensure that they are packed correctly and that there are no leakages. If the samples are not packed correctly or are leaking at the point of collection, you must not take them, but point out to a member of staff that they will need to be repackaged as they are unsuitable for transport. If the staff member has an objection to this, do not become involved in any confrontation, simply ask them to contact us at the office and we will discuss the issue with the site involved.
Once you have collected the samples, make sure that they are placed in your medical courier bag for safe and secure transportation.
